Tina Ramaci, Founder of Tiny Knot Co.
Name: Tina Ramaci
Founder: Tiny Knot Co.
Who is Tina Ramaci?
My name is Tina Ramaci, and I am a mom, small business owner and design expert from Long Island, NY.
I studied at The Fashion Institute of Technology and have designed for many well known brands and retailers such as Walmart, HSN and QVC. In 2021 I launched tiny knot co, a baby headwear brand that provides meals to children facing hunger in the US.
In less than three sentences tell us about your company and what you do.
Tiny knot Co. is a baby hair accessory company known for its patent pending headbands that provide 10 meals to children in need. Our baby headwraps are designed to not leave a mark or imprint on your baby’s delicate head. In Q2 2023, we are expanding into eco-friendly baby pajamas!
What does BEING a FoundHer mean to you?
Being a FoundHer to me means being the absolute best version of myself as a mom and entrepreneur. It means finding myself and my passions during my darkest days facing postpartum anxiety. Being a FoundHer to me is someone who takes risks, reaches for the stars and gives back to the community.
How do you support other female founders and women in business?
We are a woman/mama owned company with a goal to employ stay at home moms when our brand gets bigger. I know firsthand how hard it is to go back to work after your maternity leave, and we want to give moms the option to have a career while watching their babies grow up.
What lesson or skill did you take with you from a prior job to help you succeed in your role today?
Working for inventors and entrepreneurs throughout my design and product development field has taught me to be innovative, but more importantly, solving a problem that is important to your target market. The most important lesson I've learned as a designer is to not design what YOU want, rather what your customer needs and will purchase.
Let’s talk social media—who handles it for your company (you, an internal team member, an outsourced solution?) and what is the secret to making it successful? What is the biggest challenge?
I am a one woman show at tiny knot co. when it comes to marketing. I currently film, handle, plan and post all of my content. I rely heavily on social media scheduling services. I take an hour each week and schedule all of my content for the upcoming week and have found that that saves me so much time rather than doing it daily. I structure my content around 5 main content pillars, and subcategories which make planning easy!
What is something you do differently from the industry standard?
Moms of girls have and will always accessorize with bows and hair accessories. As a mother of a baby that struggled with eczema and sensitive skin, I quickly realized I was sacrificing my baby's comfort for style when all the bows I dressed her in left her irritated, red and with an imprint on her soft little head. We have a patent pending design that lays flat against the baby's head, which cradles instead of pushing into the skin. Our bamboo viscose fabric is delicate, breathable and soothing for sensitive skin.
Did you raise capital? What was the process and avenue you chose to take?
I did not, I have invested my own money into my business.
What would you do differently if you were starting your business today?
I would definitely order MUCH less inventory. I leaned into a specific design and print that I thought would sell through, and when it sold slower than expected, I was sitting on so many headbands. I would definitely have ordered less, listened to my selling reports first, and pivoted easily once I saw what my customer actually wanted.
