Who is Brenda Boral?
Brenda love for Marketing started in the Private University of Santa Cruz, Bolivia (UPSA) where she won a scholarship that allowed her to work in the Marketing Department since the beginning of her career culminating as the Assistant Director of Marketing in charge of a team of 15 people. That’s when, while she was working on obtaining her Master’s degree in Marketing Strategies, she had the opportunity to launch the Global MBA program in Bolivia partnering up with Thunderbird School of Global Management and The Technologic of Monterrey. Before coming to Houston; she was recognized as the top producer for the Global MBA in Bolivia by Thunderbird School of Global Management.
She started Boral Agency in 2011 with her sister and business partner Patricia, and since then has been recognized as Emerging Business of the Year by the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and 2016 Houston Dynamo Hispanic Business of the year during Hispanic Month, and Business Trainer for Houston Community College. Brenda had the opportunity to teach Marketing Strategy at the NFL Business Connect during the Houston’s Super Bowl. Also, every year since 2016 she participates as a speaker at the Business Symposium organized by St. Thomas University. Other organizations in which she had participate as a speaker are The French American Chamber of Commerce, Baker Ripley, The Houston Business Journal, 2019 Women Business Enterprise Texas Conference and recently she was recognized as the 40 under 40 Houston Entrepreneur by The Houston Business Journal.
In less than three sentences tell us about your company and what you do.
We are a full service digital marketing company We just celebrated 12 years of hard work and perseverance. We truly care about our clients and that’s why our method is so different.
We become partners, team members, and constant collaborators who thrive on delivering tangible results for long-time success.
What does BEING a FoundHer mean to you?
It means investing and empowering one another. As a women-owned businesses we encounter challenges like to balance family and self care, support and be there for our kids, partners, families, community, friends, teams. I believe that our load is heavy and we carry it with pride. We need to have other women helping and supporting us and that is what being a FoundHer means to me.
How do you support other female founders and women in business?
By sharing what I know in business and marketing. By sharing my vulnerability and that is ok to ask for help.
At what point did you make your company a full time gig? How did you know the time was right?
By the 5th year I was working 50 to 69 hours a week. It was right because my kids were bigger and I value family and my time. It was time to grow the company so I can have more money to make memories and travel with the kids.
What lesson or skill did you take with you from a prior job to help you succeed in your role today?
Accountability is so important for your growth.
To always keep learning.
Asking for help doesn’t mean we are lazy.
Work on your past and forgive yourself.
Process your traumas and heal.
Let’s talk social media—who handles it for your company (you, an internal team member, an outsourced solution?) and what is the secret to making it successful? What is the biggest challenge?
My team handles my LinkedIn and Facebook, I handle Insta and TikTok.
I do not put much pressure on myself I enjoyed and post for me and my creativity, my team post for my business and my business growth
How did you land your first client?
Friend of a friend. Asking everyone to refer me.
What is something you do differently from the industry standard?
I listen to my clients.
Did you raise capital? What was the process and avenue you chose to take?
Nope we did max out our credit cards and paid them in full in 5 years.
What would you do differently if you were starting your business today?
I would not hire a bigger team at the beginning. I would hire an accountant.
What are three strategies you use to market your business, grow brand awareness and generate bottom line growth?
Networking networking networking.
Referral partners.
Embracing cold calling.
What was an obstacle you overcame to get your business where it is today?
Learning to sell!!!
