In less than three sentences tell us about your company and what you do.

Helpusadopt.org is a national, equality based adoption grant program that helps to build families of all kinds by awarding adoption grants up to $20,000. We are unique to the space in many ways and in 2022 helped to build 100 families by awarding $1 million in grants. Organization was started 15 years ago at my nyc kitchen table.

What does BEING a FoundHer mean to you?

Everyday I get to hit the ground and help someone build their family. This organization and what makes it unique has changed the world of adoption and the lives of so many who had no where else to go for help. It’s easy to work hard everyday and dedicate yourself like this when you know you are initiating change.

How do you support other female founders and women in business?

There is space for everyone and we need to cheer each other on and support each other. I love watching my friends succeed.

At what point did you make your company a full time gig? How did you know the time was right?

Year three. We had just adopted our second child and I knew that I had to see where it could go since things were pretty good with just a part time effort.

What lesson or skill did you take with you from a prior job to help you succeed in your role today?

Every job I ever had gave me the skill set to create Helpusadopt.org. My pr and marketing experience have served me and continue to serve me well.

Let’s talk social media—who handles it for your company (you, an internal team member, an outsourced solution?) and what is the secret to making it successful? What is the biggest challenge?

We have a part time employee who creates and posts but our internal team comes up with the concepts and content. The biggest challenge is coming up with new and thought provoking content.

What is something you do differently from the industry standard?

Our doors are open to all and we are not religiously affiliated. Adoption generally speaking is very religious and discriminates.

What was an obstacle you overcame to get your business where it is today? Please share the story behind it.

The whole idea happened because I couldn’t have children and adopted my girls. Pretty significant struggle and obstacle.
